In the years since Troop folded, I have maintained contact with Ramon and his family. Sure enough, he gave the Scouts an authoritative presentation on what happens when a call comes in to the station, the importance of fitness, preparedness, and discipline to firefighters, and an enthusiastic description but not demonstration!

I most recently saw Ramon in November at the funeral of one of the Scoutmasters of Troop He was beaming with pride at having just been made a Life Member of the Department, and shared many stories of his days as a Scout.

Please contact Kent Sneed at Kent. The Troop is off to a fantastic start with 14 youth and 8 adults registered within the first 2 months of being an official unit.

Every year during the Annual Business Meeting the Board approves outstanding Scouters to serve as district commissioners.

Our approach to adopting CT is best described as crawl, walk, and then run. The primary objective of the crawl stage was to ensure every commissioner could access CTs.

During this stage, administrative commissioners assigned commissioners to units. We are now in the run stage as every district has contacted units and recorded.

Congratulations to everyone involved in building and sustaining high performing, Quality units that provides the best possible experience for the youth in the program.

The delay notwithstanding, NCAC implemented the policy during the charter renewal season to allow unit leaders and chartered partners the opportunity to be better prepared for mandatory implementation of this policy during the — charter renewal seasons.

Despite the mixed results, we can share the following observation. Highly successful districts approached charter renewal as a campaign.

Districts that complete the unit charter renewal process in the timeliest and most efficient manner followed the day charter renewal plan. We will continue to monitor our progress and look forward to seeing an increasing percentage of units with assigned commissioners and an increasing percentage of commissioners making contacts and conducting Simple Assessments.

Our CTs Champion, in collaboration with the districts, will generate a training plan and timeline to assist districts in reaching the run stage completing Detailed Assessments by midyear.

The plan will not prevent districts when prepared from moving forward on their own. Some districts are already learning this system capability.

Continue using this valuable resource. Failing to adhere to the timeline during the charter renewal process will mean a unit will be dropped as soon as the charter expires.

This will not change with the elimination of the lapse period in August of Likewise, questions related to the effective coverage date of insurance programs of the BSA are eliminated when a unit is rechartered prior to its expiration date.

It is an essential task to educate the masses about the elimination of the 60 day lapsed period. Sneed Scouting. Gilette Scouting.

Drive in with your recycling and drive out with CASH!! A farm boy from Kansas, Waldo Meier met the love of his life when he moved to St.

Paul shortly after World War II. Fate would intervene when he walked down University Avenue looking for a job and found one in the warehouse at Montgomery Ward.

His future wife Marian worked in the shipping department. His pestering paid off, as Waldo and Marian married Nov.

There were no streetlights then and wildlife was abundant. The Meiers had heard of White Bear from friends who drove up from St.

Paul to picnic on weekends. A lead from a contractor led Waldo to the one-story rambler. Shoppers at LaVasseur's food store stopped and stared at us because we were strangers.

We were considered intruders at first. Grocery shopping was very uncomfortable. When Waldo celebrated his 90th birthday last year at South Shore Trinity Lutheran Church, more than people attended.

Members since , they were there when services were held in the basement. Waldo had several jobs in the early years, "never more than three at once," he quipped, including stints at 3M and Whirlpool.

He started selling lawn equipment in out of his garage and eventually opened a lawn and garden shop in called W. He was one of the first teachers hired at a vocational school now part of Century College and taught small engine mechanics for 17 years, including a course strictly for female snowmobile owners.

Marian, 90, worked for the White Bear school district for 25 years as an elementary school secretary, first at Lincoln, then Gall and Willow when it opened.

She retired in They have 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Does it surprise them to celebrate 70 years of marriage?

We've had financial problems, but now we're fine. Each still drives, but not much. Marian and Waldo Meier enjoy sitting in the solarium attached to their living room on Dorothy Avenue.

The couple have lived in White Bear Lake since They attend Bible study and Marian is part of a church quilting group. Church is a major activity for them, said son Wayne.

Waldo describes himself as a "rabble-rouser" at South Shore Trinity. He is lobbying for a gymnasium for seniors and young adults.

To what do the Meiers attribute their longevity? I probably shouldn't say that. My last physical was in Marian chimed in that she feeds him right, "especially vegetables.

Marian loves to read and do puzzles. Numbers, on the other hand, are something Waldo keeps tidily stored in his memory bank. He has no problem recalling wages back in , like the 71 cents per hour he made at Montgomery Ward.
